Highlights of the February 2008 Meeting of the Niobrara Council
The February monthly meeting of the Niobrara Council was held at the Brown County Courthouse meeting room in Ainsworth, Nebraska. Here is a brief list of some of the discussion and action items:
* Discussion regarding council interest in setting up a Nebraska State Senator Float Trip in July.
* Chairman Frauen welcomed Wayne Werkmeister (pronounced work my ster), Acting Superintendent for the Niobrara National Scenic River at the National Park Service representative to the Niobrara Council.
* The council observed a Niobrara River Water Overview powerpoint presentation given by Mike Murphy and Duane Filsinger, Directors for the Middle and Lower Niobrara NRD’s respectively.
* Endorsed an upcoming “Leave No Trace” presentation to area educators this spring.
* Updates were given on the current status of the council conservation easement program.
* Two area burns permits were discussed and determined to be consistent with the desired future conditions for the Niobrara National Scenic River.
